| Book Proposal & Development Process |

There are five basic steps in the eighteen-month book development process for Texas State Technical College faculty and staff.

The first step is to sign off on an intellectual property prior agreement that defines the relationship of the faculty member(s) and the school regarding ownership of the final materials produced. Typically, the relationship is joint individual-institutional ownership. As dictated by particular circumstances, however, other forms of ownership may be defined.

The second step in initiating a textbook project is to submit a complete book proposal form and related materials to the TSTC Waco Publishing Committee. The book proposal form may be found at:

Once a proposal is submitted to and approved by the Publishing Committee, a timetable will be established for the completion of the rest of the project. In addition, a password-protected Web site will be set up to allow for peer review of materials as they are completed. As chapters are finished and reviewed, page layout will begin, including the generation of all necessary graphics figures. Promotional materials will also be developed to market completed books outside of the TSTC System.

In addition, once the book proposal is approved, a formal publishing contract will be prepared to be signed off on by the faculty member(s) writing a textbook and the school.

Finally, after the manuscript and page layout are finished, the book will be sent to the TSTC Waco Print Shop for the printing and binding. Books will be sold through TSTC bookstores as well as from the TSTC Waco Publishing Web site.
